Environment illustrations

I was assigned to illustrate my own environment as a background for an imaginary cartoon character. The first thing that came into my mind was space and so I began illustrating my own versions of a space themed environment. All the illustrations displayed below where drawn with a Wacom pad on photoshop using the paintbrush tool.

Once I sketched a range of different ideas I settled on one where I could instantly pick out what colour belonged where and how to further enhance the drawing. This was a landscape where the biggest feature was the tree sized mushrooms.
